Bill, Thanks for putting this out for all to see. For those of us who have followed this amazing story through Steve Lopez columns, it is still a wonder that these men “found” each other and have formed this unique relationship. Hopefully, this blog will generate interest in mental health and help family members and others to take steps to aid in the care of these people.

I know of one example where the movie’s been “hollywood-ized.” There’s a scene I’ve seen in the trailer when Robert Downey Jr. (playing Steve Lopez) says, “I’m the closest thing to family he [Nathaniel] has.” When I was at the event for the foundation, Steve told the crowd that was a moment when he cringed in the movie screening he saw because Nathaniel did, and does, have a sister who cares very much for him.

Great review! I followed the LA Times columns too, and had the same feeling about the book. Now, I am a lot more predisposed to read it. I wonder how the movie will be, some times Hollywood tends to leave just the “inspiring” parts in their movies, and the real struggle of homelessness might be lost…

I’m working at a homeless agency right now (medical respite to be exact) and I’ve been meaning to read this book forever! It looks like such an interesting story.
